Remnants of Chaos
You never truly forget what makes you who you are. Or how it felt.
〄 I usually accept RPs anyways, but I would really prefer it if you ask for permission before sending an extensive starter with a plot that you assume I'll take part in. But let it be known that /no one/ is obligated to reply to you, so don't take it personal if you don't get a response. I'm mildly selective.
〄 Ships must have chemistry.
〄 If I have not replied to any RPs, please be patient with me. I'm well aware of who and what I need to get to, don't worry.
〄 Have fun! I'm here to entertain all of you, so try not to stress yourself! The more you enjoy it, the more I do. It's a win-win.

Overview
As someone who has always had a drive to protect those who could not protect themselves, Shadow the Hedgehog had no doubt as to what his purpose in life would be.
But as time progresses, his destiny begins to become unclear to him. And he starts to question himself.
What is he fighting for, anymore?
This is the question that drives him throughout his journey.
Skills and Abilities
As a unifier and utilizer of the infamous Chaos Energy, Shadow has a very wide and diverse range of ability to showcase.
From enhancement, to absolute destruction, there's millions of possibilities to explore.
However, his energy is ran off of a limited system which regenerates on its own over time. Too much energy exertion in too short of a timespan can be crippling. So, he must adjust based off these parameters.
[ Text marked in brackets signifies the enhanced effect of using a Chaos Emerald for the specified ability. ]
Chaos Energy Manipulation Able to fully manipulate Chaos Energy however he wishes. (ex: condensed energy weapons, basic elemental property application, manifestation of tools, etc.) [Able to heal wounds; regeneration time is based off of the severity of injury.]
Combative GeniusA set of skills and techniques used at a professional level of combat. Whether it be hand to hand, or otherwise; his combative awareness and expertise is top notch.
Chaos BreakCan infuse himself in Chaos Energy and temporarily boost all attributes. It lasts for one attack/action, and requires a moderate amount of power. It can also be used as a counter, which negates damage on the strike that lands while it is activated; however, if his energy is low, he may not withstand the incoming attack.
Chaos DimensionCan open a portal to his own pocket dimension, the "Chaos Dimension", which is a location only accessible to everyone, but the portal can only be created by those who can manipulate Chaos Energy. At first, the use of an Emerald was required, but now Shadow has gotten skilled enough to access it using just his own energy reserves.
Chaos ControlAble to teleport short distances. [Significantly increased teleportation range, and gains the ability to control time and space. He can also create a field/area where the energy only affects things that are resting in that specific spot.]
These are just the more solidified, commonly used ones. Generalized.
He has many more, which derive mostly from these core abilities.
Personality
In the past, Shadow was a very emotional person. Distant, but connected.
Nowadays, he has his emotions more in check, and is very calm about most things. Throughout his endeavors, he has matured a lot, and now understands that being open and comfortable around people isn't... wrong.
He even has a bit of a childish sense of humor, and sometimes enjoys teasing or banter, which he picked up from having to care for multiple children/students he taught. It broke his shell quite a bit, even if it's still very present.
Though, this all doesn't mean he is immune from outbursts if you push him hard enough.
Shadow never calls Eggman anything but "doctor" or "the doctor". This is not out of respect for him, but for his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik.
Due to all the students and dependents he's had to care for, Shadow has become quite the "father figure". Generally more akin to an uncle, depending on who you ask.
Shadow sometimes wears a blue scarf that was gifted to him by Maria. If you ever see it, be careful.
Shadow occasionally has lucid dreams about his past... and relives the moment, over and over. But, in a way, it reminds him of precisely why he fights. So he doesn't speak out against it.
He doesn't ever want to forget her face.
Due to Black Doom's DNA, Shadow is immune to nearly all earthbound diseases. His immune system also builds up a resistance significantly faster than normal.
These will be updated as he progresses.
A past, forgotten by many. But for Shadow, it will always linger in his mind.
Synopsis
A short summary of each phase of Shadow's story up until the present. Including ones that were actually roleplayed throughout the 5+ years I've had Shadow.
Anything in the Sonic comic and game canon that is not mentioned is still true and valid, and remains unchanged.
It's been a wild ride.
Hope you enjoy.
The Ultimate Lifeform
The Ultimate Lifeform. Created to be the perfect being-- able to resist anything and anyone in any given situation. Even death. Persistent and flawless.
Shadow the Hedgehog was created using the combined strength of Black Doom's DNA, and Professor Gerald Robotnik's genius, as not only a weapon to utilize against the corrupt, but also as a cure; a cure for the scientist's 5 year old granddaughter, Maria.
Maria was diagnosed with a devastating terminal illness, which slowly sapped away at her life each day. Her grandfather attained the DNA of Black Doom to create a being who'd be immune to all diseases -- due to its alien heritage. He worked as hard as he could every day and night to figure out a way to safely use Shadow's blood to concoct an antidote without harming Maria. After all, there was a major risk of utilizing the DNA of an alien on something as fragile as a human. No need to risk any horrific side effects.
Meanwhile, Maria finally had a new friend to play with! Her and Shadow got along fairly easily, seeing as their mutual curiousity about the world around them helped them relate. Their relationship grew and prospered for 8 whole years (when Maria was 13), before the tragic events of the ARK took place.
By then, Maria had actually been going through a slow process of healing, after Gerald found a way to synthesize a safe and effective medication. As to not ruin the luck, he would keep Maria in the Space Colony until she was fully cured.
A mistake he'd soon realize.
This left her constantly pondering over Earth and what it would be like; a thought process immediately passed down to Shadow.
Everything that happens on board the ARK, all the way up until the destruction of the Biolizard remains true. Except, after using all his power to help save the Earth, Shadow would simply use his "death" as cover to lay low and rethink his life. And after all that had happened, and all the emotions he had stored up inside of him-- he had quite a bit of thinking to do.
The Bereft Emissary
After some time hiding out, the hedgehog would reveal himself back to the world-- first encountering one of his old allies: Rouge. During their reunion, the bat would reveal that she now worked for the government funded agency known as the Guardian Units of Nations. Thoughts of the promise he made with Maria lead him to try and right his wrongs by helping people through his service in GUN. Which is where Rouge introduced him to Omega, who wasn't a GUN made machine, but was a reliable help in plenty of other situations. The two had a lot of quarrels for a long while, but would eventually hash them out.
For a long while, he loyally served as "Agent Shadow", carrying out seemingly hundreds of missions alongside Team Dark. His newfound purpose in life had become a much nobler one. In his mind, he was sure this was the correct path for him.
However...
Nothing lasts forever. Nothing good, anyway.
After what had seemed like ages of service to GUN, Shadow once again found himself questioning his own ideals, after the discovery of the truth about his past, and the Space Colony ARK incident...
GUN.
They were the ones responsible for the tragedy that occurred upon the ARK all those years ago.
It had felt like the world as he knew it came tumbling down on top of him.
Horrific events, made out to be justified, and completely heroic. Shadow had more than likely committed these same offenses against those he faced during his own missions.
He felt blind. Perhaps he was.
But no longer.
The Unrelenting Rage
Now convinced that the world he and Maria had envisioned was a lie, and that everyone that lived on Earth was just as corrupt, the despaired hedgehog developed a very unforgiving mentality against those who committed misdeeds of any sort.
No one was spared from his rage.
GUN was hit the worst by Shadow, of course -- which would land him as their number one target for a long time. However, anyone who fell in his way was also deemed a threat... and attacked all the same. Innocent or not.
After the initial terrorizing he had done, it would take a lot of fighting and convincing to get Shadow to even listen long enough to ponder over his own actions. And maybe even stop the madness he was enabling.
But, he eventually would.
Though he was now permanently retured from GUN, he still decided to help take down bigger threats (such as Eggman) when the time arose. There was barely a code he followed, and it was very difficult to control his actions, but at least he had began going after those who were truly corrupt.
He was still a very wanted man, but his contributions to society would eventually outweigh his horrible actions. The public donned him a vigilante; especially after the allegations and conspiracies about GUN and their merit began to take place, people were beginning to think what Shadow did wasn't as evil as it seemed at the time.
Coming into contact with lots of new faces, and even taking in a few students who admired his abilities...
Shadow began to find himself, again.
He was gaining hope. Corruption hadn't spread fully just yet. And if he assisted in the fight for good, maybe he could stomp it out forever.
He could let them all be happy.
The Chaos Dimension
Now he was back into the shadows, assisting in defeating threats when he felt the need to intervene. While he maintained his low profile, he focused a lot on his powers, and how to improve them. And experimentation with Chaos Energy Manipulation led him to discover a new technique; creating his own pocket dimension.
Appropriately titled the "Chaos Dimension" -- due to the unlimited supply of Chaos Energy present within -- Shadow would now use this as a training ground for himself, as well as a living area. It was the perfect cover.
He'd even bring his students in to train from time to time.
The Chaos Dimension expanded the limits of his powers by a lot, and his consistent efforts inside the void would open a lot more doors for him, combat wise.
Little did he know, there were drawbacks.
The overwhelming amount of energy would eventually get to his mind as he grew stronger. He found himself drawn into the void for longer periods of time, which ended up altering his mind temporarily. He suffered from a lot of aggressive outbursts, loss of memory, head pains, rattling of the hands due to anxiousness, and... sporadic urges to kill.
These were all causes of overexposure to an extreme amount of Chaos Energy. His body couldn't handle gaining so much power at once.
Luckily, he was able to figure it out himself before it got too bad.
But by that time, he had already attacked several innocent people. Some even being his own comrades.
The recovery process took a while, but he eventually healed from it.
Ever since, he's never entered the Chaos Dimension.
Perhaps he will again, one day.
But that's a story for another time.
Synopsis
This is an up-to-date record of important people Shadow has come into contact with.
A small description of each represents how the hedgehog feels about that specific person, as well as how they affect him.
I'll be updating this every time it changes, so if you're curious as to how a certain interaction has affected Shadow, this'll always be relevant.
NOTE: The people listed here are ones that were either planned to be officially part of Shadow's AU, or have made enough of a consistent impact to be included.
[ P.S. It's in alphabetical order! So it'll be easier to find your character! ]
Blaze the Cat
[ @FlaringFeline ]
The one who he could never really dislike. Shadow rarely finds himself not viewing the feline in a positive light.
She held all the traits he admired in a hero, and more importantly... wasn't absolutely annoying.
No one can deny her resolve.
Though they haven't spoken much directly, he looks forward to interacting more with her. It's always a pleasure.
As it stands,
he'll be attempting to get in touch with Blaze more often.
Candy the Fox
[ @SugahFox ]
One of many troublemakers he knows.
... But, a good one.
Shadow and Candy have a pretty deep history with each other. He's taken the responsibility over this little rascal for a long while, now. And their relationship is nearly unbreakable.
She can be annoying and rude sometimes (but that's his own fault, probably), but overall she's a good kid with great morals. Not much else you can ask for, honestly. She reminds him of how he and Maria used to be back on the ARK.
She's able to bring out the softer side of him.
And he's proud of how she's turning out. He'll always be there for her, when she needs him.
She's family.
Ivory
[ @SilentSacada ]
A tragic case...
Yes, this one was a big troublemaker for him.
Due to his constant loss of memory, it took Shadow quite a while to remember who exactly this was. But, now that he has, he's filled with nothing but guilt.
His anger towards GUN caused this woman to fall in the same rabbit hole he fell down while he raged at the agency for tricking him. He caused her a lot of pain.
All he wants to do now is help her heal. They haven't spoken at all since he figured this out.
Maybe she's gone for good. Who knew.
Either way, he has to find a way to make it up to her, if she ever returns.
Keala
[ @BruteBombshell ]
The fire this woman could generate was insane.
She was always so upbeat and high energy -- it was a good motivator for Shadow. She made him adopt those traits, whenever she was around. It was contagious.
He thinks she has a pure heart, and easily looks past all of her flaws when judging her as a person.
They haven't talked too much recently, but he would gladly be there for support whenever she needed it.
Emotional or otherwise.
She's earned it, at this point.
Silver the Hedgehog
[ @YumeNoHakai ]
A very interesting person. Somehow, he managed to become far more likable than most people..
They've had quarrels a lot of times, but at the end of the day, Shadow respects his power, as well as the goal he strives to achieve.
As of right now, he's unsure of where they stand, after their last encounter.
The side effects of the Chaos Dimension ruffed up their relationship a bit.
Sonic the Hedgehog
[ @HISWORLD ]
Of course, there's the main rival. Sonic the Hedgehog.
Not much can be said about this one. He's as annoying and stupid as usual.
That'll never change.
And neither will the mutual respect the two have for each other. They both gladly accept the challenges the other presents. And it should stay that way.
He may be a nuisance, but he's still an ally. Shadow understands him completely, and is absolutely willing to go out of his way to help the hedgehog, if he really needed it.
As of right now, they're on good terms.
He's not bad.
For an imposter.
Soul
[ @EnduringTragedy ]
Another child he took the responsibility of.
Unlike Candy, Soul was a lot harder to keep track of. He constantly would run off on his own, and rarely came around to talk to Shadow. Despite a few issues between the two, he still works his hardest to make sure this kid lives safely, and keeps him on the right path. He treats him like family, as well.
Soul wasn't always like this...
He wonders what's going on.
Perhaps he'll get a clear answer, eventually.
Tails the Fox
[ @TwinTailedTech ]
Despite how often he hangs around Sonic, the fox actually is far more tolerable. The many genius ideas he creates are something that still impress Shadow.
Where the hell does he get all that brain from..
Tails is a trusted companion, who's earned the respect from Shadow. Even if it took some time.
They don't exactly speak much, but he is also a trusted ally.
Twila of the Moon
[ @EtherealElune ]
Out of all the people he's met, there has been no one greater, or more pure hearted than Twila.
These two have spoken a few times, and somehow she's always show up at the times he's needed it the most. She was a very stable pillar of support for him when he was suffering from the drawbacks that came with the Chaos Dimension. She reminds him of why he fights for the protection of the world.
He looks up to her.
And he wishes more people like her existed.
Vava Goenitz
[ @Vava_Kun ]
An old, reliable ally.
Shadow and Vava have quite a bit of history, and not much of it was... negative. In fact, it wouldn't be a stretch to name the feline as one of the hedgehog's greatest companions.
He is a very talented electokinetic, which made him a great sparring partner. Though they don't exactly spar as much as they used to, it's still always relieving to see such a friendly face.
He's also one of the few who were mentored a bit by Shadow.
At this point, though, he doubts the kid needs anymore teaching. He's gone much further than Shadow, even.
